1. Introduction
Welcome to 247 Loans. Our commitment is to protect your privacy and personal data by adhering to the best global standards, and in particular to the Protection of Personal Information Act, No. 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and the National Credit Act, No. 34 of 2005 (NCA).
247 Loans does not offer loans directly. We connect you to our panel of lenders through our free, quick online application process.
2. What personal information we collect
When you apply for our services, we collect:
- Basic identification details: name, email address, telephone number, South African ID number, date of birth, physical city.
- Financial and employment details: employment status, net income range, bank, loan amount requested, debt review status.
- Credit information: with your explicit consent, we may obtain your credit report from a registered credit bureau.
- Application outcome: whether your loan application was approved, declined, or referred elsewhere — used, among other things, to determine whether you may be suitable for the referral services described in Section 4.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type and device, the pages you visit, the step of the application form you reach, and cookies and similar tracking technologies used on this website.
3. Credit bureau checks
By applying for a credit product through 247 Loans, you give us permission to conduct a credit bureau check on your behalf. The result of this check may be shared with our lending panel to find you a suitable product.
4. How we use your information
By using this site and submitting an application (or opting in to receive marketing), you agree that 247 Loans may:
- Provide your data to our panel of lenders for the purpose of matching you with a suitable credit product.
- Where you do not qualify for a loan through our lender panel, refer your details to specialist debt-review, credit-repair, or financial-wellness service providers, who may contact you about services to help manage or improve your credit position.
- Use profiling tools and models to better position products for your needs (only where you have opted in).
- Allow our partners to contact you directly with suitable offers, news or related information.
- Share limited data with our advertising and analytics partners (such as Google and Meta/Facebook) to measure how well our ads perform, and to avoid showing our ads to people who have already applied with us. Where this includes your email address or mobile number, it is first converted on our systems into a scrambled code (known as “hashing”), so the partner does not receive it in readable form. The partner uses it only to match it to its own users for these purposes on our behalf, under its own business terms. Where analytics and advertising cookies are switched on, our website also shares page visits and the application form step you reach with Meta through the Meta pixel, as described in Section 9.
We never sell your personal data. Where we share data with third-party lenders or service providers, it is strictly for the purpose of delivering the service you have requested.
5. Data retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes stated above or as required by law:
- Active applications and related communications: up to 5 years from the date of last activity, in line with the record-keeping requirements of the NCA.
- Marketing opt-in records: until you opt out or withdraw your consent.
- Financial record keeping (loan opening date, amount, ID number): up to 5 years after the closure of any account, as required by South African financial regulators.
- Referral records (debt-review, credit-repair, or financial-wellness referrals): retained for as long as necessary to administer the referral, and in any event no longer than 5 years from the date of referral.
- Technical / cookie data: up to 24 months.
After the applicable retention period, your data is securely deleted or anonymised.
6. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or outdated information.
- Request deletion of your personal information (subject to legal record-keeping obligations).
- Object to the processing of your data for direct marketing purposes, including the use of your hashed contact details to measure or manage our advertising.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise any of these rights, please email our Information Officer at info@247loans.co.za with the subject line “Data Subject Request”. We will respond within 30 days.
7. How we protect your data
Your data is transmitted over 256-bit SSL-encrypted connections and stored on secure servers hosted within jurisdictions that offer adequate data protection. Access to personal data is restricted to authorised staff on a need-to-know basis, and every staff member has signed confidentiality undertakings.
8. Marketing opt-out
Every marketing email from 247 Loans or our partners contains an unsubscribe link. You may also register with the DMA national opt-out database at dmasa.org under the Consumer Protection Act No. 68 of 2008.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. When you first visit, a banner explains your choices. You can change them at any time using “Cookie preferences” in the website footer. We group them as follows:
- Essential (always on): running the application form, OTP verification, security, and remembering your cookie choice and which ad or link brought you here. Examples:
247loans_consent (180 days) and _attr (30 days).
- Analytics and advertising (on unless you switch them off): counting visits, seeing where people drop out of the application form, and showing you relevant 247 Loans ads on other platforms. These are Google tag and Google Analytics, the Meta (Facebook) pixel, Microsoft Advertising UET, Microsoft Clarity and Mouseflow.
- Functional (optional): remembering your preferences to make the site easier to use. These are set only if you allow them.
If you decline analytics and advertising, the Meta pixel, Microsoft Advertising, Microsoft Clarity and Mouseflow do not load, and Google Analytics runs without analytics storage.
What the Meta (Facebook) pixel sees. When it is on, the pixel tells Meta that your browser visited a page on our website and which step of the application form you reached (step 1, 2 or 3). We use this to show relevant 247 Loans ads, to avoid showing ads to people who have already applied, and to measure our advertising. We do not send your name, ID number, income, bank details or other application answers to Meta through the pixel. Where you complete an application, we may send Meta a record of that event, with your contact details in hashed (scrambled) form, to measure results. Meta processes this information under its own privacy policy.
Session recording tools. Microsoft Clarity and Mouseflow record how visitors use pages (clicks, scrolling and form progress) to help us find and fix problems. Sensitive form fields are masked.
Your choices. You can switch off analytics and advertising in the banner or in “Cookie preferences”. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of Meta ads in your Facebook ad settings. Switching cookies off does not affect your ability to apply for a loan.
